How to Handle the Renewal and Fee Waiver from Italy
Since you are not currently in Arizona, the best way to resolve this is by phone or mail, as you’ve started.
Call the Sierra Vista Third Party Office (520-459-2434):
Mention that you are an out-of-country resident and want to pay for your registration renewal.
Explain the non-use circumstances (caring for your mother/her passing and then being out of the country) and that you were previously told the late fees would be waived.
They should be able to process the renewal and the Registration Penalty Fee Waiver, Non-Use certification over the phone or guide you on how to submit the form from Italy. This waiver certifies the car was not driven on an Arizona public roadway while the tags were expired, which waives the late fee.
Renew Online (Best Option if Applicable):
You can renew your Arizona registration online at the Arizona MVD’s official website using your license plate number and the last four digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Important: If the system is trying to charge you the late fees, you must speak to a representative first, as the fee waiver may need to be processed manually by an MVD or Third-Party agent. The person you spoke with a few days ago set the correct expectation that you would not have to pay the late fees, so be sure to get that resolved before completing the payment.
Renewing your registration online or by phone updates your record instantly, and your new registration documents and tabs will be mailed to the address on file (presumably your daughter’s).
