  • Renewals of Driver Licenses ONLY – New (first-time) driver licenses and new endorsements must be processed at a DMV Hub office. Haz-Mat Endorsement renewals must be processed at a DMV Hub office. 
  • Name changes on DMV documents – NOTE: Non-U.S. citizens must visit a DMV Hub office to change a name on a DMV document.
  • Duplicates of DMV documents
  • Non-Driver ID Cards – NOTE: Non-U.S. citizens must visit a DMV Hub office to obtain a Non-Driver ID Card for the first time.

The Winsted, Connecticut DMV Satellite Office is open Tuesday from 8 AM–4:30 PM, Thursday from 8 AM–7 PM, and Saturday from 8 AM–12:30 PM. The Connecticut DMV is located at 151 Torrington Rd, Winsted, CT. 

The DMV is open by appointment only. Services vary by office, so check individual offices for services at that location. 

The DMV’s Contact Center hours with operators on duty are Monday through Friday, 8 AM–4 PM. You can also email the DMV for general questions by completing the DMV contact form.

    To make an appointment at the Weinsted DMV office in Connecticut to renew your handicap permit, you can follow these steps:

    Go to the CT DMV website: https://portal.ct.gov/dmv/resources/make-change-appointment and click on the “Make or Change Appointment” button.
    Select “Weinsted” from the list of DMV offices.
    Select “Handicap Placard Renewal” from the list of services.
    Choose a date and time for your appointment.
    Enter your contact information and create an account.
    Pay the $5 appointment fee.
    Print out your confirmation receipt.
    You can also call the DMV call center at 860-263-5700 to make an appointment.

    Here are the documents you will need to bring with you to your appointment:

    A completed handicap placard application form
    A copy of your current handicap placard (if applicable)
    Proof of disability (such as a doctor’s note or a disability placard from another state)
    Proof of identity (such as a driver’s license or passport)
    Proof of residency in Connecticut (such as a utility bill or lease agreement)
    The cost to renew a handicap placard in Connecticut is $5.

    Your new handicap placard will be mailed to you within 10 business days of your appointment.
