I have lost my license and I am not in Sarasota. Florida. How can I get a replacement?

I’m sorry to hear that you have lost your license. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), you can replace your lost driver license or ID card online or in person.

If you are in Florida, you can visit your local FLHSMV office and bring the following documents:

  • Proof of identity, such as a birth certificate or passport
  • Proof of Social Security number, such as a Social Security card or W-2 form
  • Proof of residential address, such as a utility bill or bank statement
  • Payment for the replacement fee, which is $25 for a driver license and $25 for an ID card1

If you are out of state, you can request a temporary permit that is valid for 90 days by contacting the FLHSMV by mail, phone or email. You will need to provide your name, date of birth, out-of-state address and driver license number. You will also need to pay the replacement fee by check or money order.

You can also use the online service GoRenew to renew or replace your driver license or ID card if you meet the following criteria:

  • You have a Class E (non-commercial) driver license
  • You are a U.S. citizen
  • Your Social Security number is verified
  • Your current address is on file
  • You do not have any suspensions, revocations or cancellations
  • You are not due for a vision test

I hope this information helps you get a replacement for your license. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
