“I have paid to register my two motor vehicles in Florida over one month ago. I received a receipt but have never received my new registrations…what do I do?”
September 14, 2025
Here’s what you should do to get your Florida vehicle registrations:
1. Wait a Little Longer (But Not Too Long)
- The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) states that online registration renewals are typically mailed within 7-10 business days.
- Since it’s been over a month, it’s highly likely there’s an issue. It’s time to take action.
2. Check for a Replacement/Duplicate Registration
- You can order a duplicate registration.
- The fee for a replacement registration is around $3.00.
- You can often do this online through the FLHSMV MyDMV Portal or by visiting a local county tax collector’s office.
3. Contact the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV)
- The most direct way to resolve this is to contact the FLHSMV.
- Call their Customer Service Center at (850) 617-2000.
- Be prepared to provide your driver’s license number, Social Security number, and/or your vehicle identification number (VIN) to help them locate your records.
- It’s a good idea to have your receipt handy as proof of payment.
4. Visit Your Local County Tax Collector’s Office
- You can go to any local service center or tax collector’s office in Florida.
- Bringing your receipt and a valid photo ID will be essential.
- They can often print a new registration for you on the spot.
Important Notes:
- If you’re having trouble getting through on the phone, keep trying. Some sources suggest you may need to call multiple times to speak to a representative.
- Make sure there are no “stops” on your registration that could be preventing it from being mailed. This could be due to unpaid tolls, fines, or other issues. You can often check this on the FLHSMV website.
- If you ordered a replacement license plate or decal that you never received, there may be a fee to get a new one. However, since you’re missing the paper registration, the fee should be minimal.
