I was trying to schedule an appointment for vision screening. The DMV closest is the one on Diversey. However, to schedule an appointment proved to be impossible. I called several times with no answer whatsoever. I also, asked my daughter to go online to schedule the appointment but that was not available either. It is very frustrating to go into walk-in facility to be told an appointment needs to be scheduled but no one ever answers phones anymore.

I understand your frustration with trying to schedule a vision screening appointment at the Diversey DMV. It’s definitely annoying when you can’t get through on the phone or find online scheduling options. Here are a few things you can try:

  1. Double-check the website: Sometimes appointment scheduling links can be a little hidden. Look carefully through the Illinois Secretary of State website (or whichever state you’re in) for any variations on “appointments,” “scheduling,” or “vision screening.” See if there’s a specific section for the Diversey facility. Also, some sites have a separate area for driver services vs. vehicle services, so make sure you are in the right section.
  2. Check for alternative locations: While Diversey is closest, see if other nearby DMV facilities offer vision screening and if their appointment systems are working better. A slightly longer drive might be worth it to avoid the hassle.
  3. Contact the Secretary of State’s office: Try calling the general customer service number for the Secretary of State’s office (or your state’s equivalent). They might be able to help you schedule an appointment or at least explain why the Diversey facility is having issues. Sometimes there are specific departments that handle licensing and vision screenings.
  4. Consider going in person (if possible): I know you mentioned the frustration of being told you need an appointment after going in person. However, if you have some flexibility in your schedule, going to the Diversey facility early in the morning might be an option. Sometimes they have walk-in slots available, even if they prefer appointments. Be prepared for a potential wait, though.
  5. Social Media: It might seem unusual, but sometimes DMVs have a social media presence (like Twitter or Facebook). You could try sending a polite message explaining your difficulty scheduling. It’s a long shot, but sometimes it gets a quicker response than a phone call.
  6. Contact your state representative: If all else fails, consider contacting your local state representative’s office. They often have staff who can help constituents navigate government services.

I hope one of these suggestions helps you get your vision screening scheduled soon!
