I need the title for my vehicle- it will not allow me to request one on line. Bellco who I have my car loan through stated they never received the title from the dealership and the dealership claims that Bellco lost it.
I have a letter stating Bellco has released the Lein on the vehicle but in order to sell the car I need the title. Can someone help me with this? I have the paperwork when I purchased the vehicle as well as the letter from Bellco. Can this be done on line? Why does it tell me it cannot be? Thank you for your time and assistance.
A) Unfortunately, obtaining a vehicle title is typically a process that requires in-person interaction with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a similar state agency. This is because they need to verify your identity and the legitimacy of your claim to the vehicle.
Here are the steps you should take:
- Contact Your State’s DMV:
- Visit the DMV website for your state and look for information on replacing a lost vehicle title.
- You’ll likely find a form to fill out and instructions on what documents you need to bring with you.
- Gather Necessary Documents:
- Your driver’s license
- Proof of vehicle ownership (purchase agreement, lease agreement)
- The lien release letter from Bellco
- Any other requested documents
- Visit the DMV:
- Schedule an appointment if required.
- Bring all necessary documents.
- Be prepared to pay a fee for the replacement title.
- Wait for the New Title:
- The DMV will process your request and mail you the new title.
While it’s frustrating that you can’t do this online, it’s necessary to ensure the security of vehicle titles and prevent fraud.
