“I recently registered a vehicle and only received one plate…shouldn’t I have received two plates? Do I need CTplate or is one enough?”

In Connecticut, most motor vehicles are required to display two license plates, one on the front and one on the rear. The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is supposed to issue two plates for new registrations.

While some states have moved to a single plate system, Connecticut’s law generally requires two plates. There are some exceptions for certain types of vehicles, such as motorcycles, trailers, and some commercial vehicles.

Given that you only received one plate, and Connecticut law requires two for most vehicles, it would be best to contact the Connecticut DMV to inquire about the second plate. Your registration papers may also indicate how many plates were issued. Displaying only one plate when two are required could potentially result in a traffic stop or fine.
